I’ve had people tell me to “quit” and “get

I’ve had people tell me to “quit” and “get a real job” probably hundreds of times since I first started working for myself 12+ years ago.

And not just in the times when I struggled, but even in times of success. While I don’t agree with it, I get why people think this way. ⁠

We’re all programmed to think that working for somebody else is the safest bet.⁠ That getting a paycheck is more stable.⁠

But the funny thing is, whenever I’ve worked for somebody else, that stable 9-to-5 I was hunting for was never what I ended up with. ⁠I always struggled no matter who I was working for… either being severely underpaid, overworked, or unappreciated. It was never a good experience.

There’s a reason people talk about cubicle hell.

And working for someone else isn’t always the stable career choice people might assume it is.⁠ I mean, ultimately, you you don’t own the company, so you’re always at risk of getting axed.⁠

One of the reasons I started my own business is BECAUSE all the “real jobs” were unreliable.

Low pay, multiple jobs, layoffs, no benefits, long hours, mediocre co-workers, hostile bosses. ⁠It’s not the recipe for success that so many people rave about.

I mean, going it alone sounds a lot less risky when you consider all of the drawbacks of a traditional workplace.⁠

Is it easy? No.

Are there ups and downs? Yes.

Is it unpredictable and sometimes unreliable… of course.

But if you’re going to take a risk, who would you rather do it for… yourself? Or your 9-5 overlords?

So really, don’t worry about what other people think. Just make sure you’re on the right path for you. And although it may feel crazy at times, just remember how crazy it was working for somebody else.

Don’t give up.

Sometimes you’ll have moments in your business where the struggle will feel so overwhelming.⁠

I know... because that has been my life for the last 5 years while I was struggling with chronic health conditions I didn't even realize I had.
⁠
Sometimes you’ll think about quitting.⁠
⁠
Sometimes you will quit.⁠ (I quit a FEW things, unintentionally. 😮‍💨)
⁠
But you can always pick yourself back up and start again when you’re ready.⁠ (Like I'm doing right now.)
⁠
5 years ago, I set a goal for myself that I never followed through on.⁠
⁠
I started strong, but when life happened, I was forced to put those projects on hold. ⁠It was unfortunately, a necessary occurance.
⁠
And that’s ok because I had to focus on myself in that moment.
⁠
This year though, I want to thrive again.

I want to set goals... and reach them.
⁠
To make sure I get there, I'm setting REALISTIC goals. I will review them each week and try to keep them as open as possible. Because I'm NOT a machine. None of us are. 💯

I will remind myself that every week won’t be a productive one. I have to cut myself some slack.
⁠
If I don’t get to it one week, I’ll get it the next. But by the end of the month, I will do my best to make sure that I’ve checked as many things as possible off my list.⁠

Because it's important to remind yourself that you're human. You need rest. You have needs. And those needs matter. Sometimes they matter much more than productivity or any form of success. And they can't be ignored. I mean, because if they are, the consequences can be dire.

Forget overwhelm and doing too much. Set REALISTIC goals. And do your best to achieve them. But if you don't make it, don't beat yourself up about it. Take your time. And don't be afraid to ask for help. You don't have to do this alone. Wishing you all a productive and well rested end to 2024. 💕🙏✨

Yes, it could always be better of course, but I'm not waiting for perfection before I get started. And you shouldn't either.
