When I started my business, I had no money, no skills, no support network. I was attending college full-time and parenting a 2-year-old when my husband started losing hours at work. We didn’t have a safety net or a plan B.
I took the last $100 out of our tax return and spent it on web hosting so I could start my first business. This was a huge risk for me since I was struggling to even pay a $10/mo. phone bill at the time.
No one in my family had ever started a business before, so it wasn’t something I knew how to do. The whole process felt scary, but I didn’t really have a choice. It was leap or fall.
My biggest fear was that, in a few weeks, my husband would be laid off and we’d have no way to pay rent… and that’s exactly what happened.
We were alone, living out of state, with no family to lean on. If I hadn’t created my business then, we would have quickly ended up on the streets or in a shelter.
That’s how I know that businesses don’t always need to start with a plan or strategy. Sometimes they start out of necessity. Sometimes they start with less than a shoestring budget. And those businesses can still move on to be some of the most successful in the future.
Start where you’re at with what you’ve got. You can figure out the rest as you grow. Everything you need to know, you can research for free on Google and YouTube. That’s what I did.
So don’t second guess yourself. Don’t hesitate. Know that… you can do this.
The sole act of STARTING a business, on it’s own, is a brave one. So, believe in yourself and never be afraid to take the leap.
